Description
Corycian cave was sacred to the Corycian Nymphs and the Muses, and a place of worship for Pan. The cavern is enormous at 60 m long, 26 m wide and 12 m high. Archaeological objects found from the Neolithic up to Roman era. The local Delphians and the Parnasians took refuge in the cave from the Persians in the 5th century BC,from the Ottoman Turks during the Greek War of Independence and from the Nazi Germans in 1943. Parnasos mount, Phocis, Greece. Slide has been digitized.
